place: pulau hantu time: 8.30am It was really exciting going for my first open water dive. We set off at about 9am and reached Hantu at about 9.20. The journey there was quite an experience itself as it was the first time I came so close to S'pore's petrochemical islands which were rather intimidating due to the many chimneys and stores for petrol. After suiting up, the weather turned extremely bad. The grey clouds touched the horizon and the water was really choppy. Rain was pouring like mad. Us students were left alone in the boat the instructor having already been in the water to plant the buoy. It was scary jumping into choppy waters for fear of being drifted away. However the water underneath the surface was much calmer than on top so we did the necessary skills for the instructor to see and we returned back to the surface. The next few dives were much of the same only that the purpose of the third dive was to go look at corals. The S'pore waters were so murky there was no point. So after we were out of air we got up the boat, dismantled and waited for the other divers to return before heading home.
It's really amazing breathing underwater and seeing things I never got the chance to see firsthand. No wonder Lynn loves diving so much. And I'll be going Dayang this Saturday!
