Its amazing how much food we prepared. Bacon with white mushrooms, kebabs (kabobs by flavian), prawn and sotong balls, marinating chicken wings. Its a chore. I dislike bbqs but this being "Flavian's last proper gathering with the Young Adults CG" I had to attend. Joshua, Janelle and Jeremiah went to Flavian's house to prepare. Micheal Ting came later. The 5 of us went down to Pasir Ris earlier to help start fire and set the place. The fire was great and the place was really windy so we didn't have to maintain the fire. The sky was rather cloudy and the occasional thunder in the distance threatened. The reason i hate bbqs is because of the heat and the kind of food it produces. I like the way Elder Peter Seah prays:" We pray by faith for good weather even as it looks bad but have your will 'o Lord." I should learn. The rain only came after most of the food had been finished. We ran for shelter and stayed there till the rain stopped. The rest of us left for home leaving Luwin, Joshua and Flavian staying over. Auntie Swee Sin sent me to Bukit Batok in her car. I thought it was troublesome for her so i told her that she could leave me at Pasir Ris MRT and i could take a train home but she said she wanted the company. On the way there she had Pastor Shani's company, so now on the way back she didn't want to drive alone in unknown places. Alright, all the better for me. During the 45 mins of travelling, we talked about everything and anything. I was surprised cuz i was afraid of running outta topics and the awkward silence. We talked about her sports car, 15 yrs old now and still in good condition, how she developed a passion for sports cars, whether she'd take herself out for a spin. She said she'd drive fast on roads she's familiar with and when there're no cars and the type of cars she had test driven on. Omg, auntie Swee Sin! Old in age but young at heart. I never knew. I had to speak very slowly and answer each and every question carefully to suit her style. She asked me about my dream girl and wad attributes i would consider. I was so embarrassed so i told her the general ones people usually say. But i missed out religion.
Swee Sin:" but don't u think religion is important?" me (highly embarrassed and very slowly):" oh yes, religion. she must definitely be a christian. well, that goes without saying." Swee Sin:" yes yes, it goes without saying."
She's so Godly, how did i miss out religion? I quickly changed the subject on the direction we were heading. She asked about my mum, my studies, told me about her lifestyle, her other house she's renting out and so much more. Finally we reached Bukit Batok MRT. I was so relieved I wanted to get out of the car fast.
Swee Sin:" thanks for the company jeremiah." me:" thanks for the ride. i appreciate it so much." Swee Sin (reaching out a hand to unlock the door beside me):" have a goodnight and i'll see you on sunday." me (thought she wanted to shake hands and reaching out my own only to change direction immediately after i saw what she was doing):" yes yes, i'll see you on sunday. Goodnight."
If i shook her hand, I'm a dimwit! So paiseh! People reach out to open door, i thought she wanted to shake hands. I would die from embarrassment. Wise old sage auntie Swee Sin.
