I've noticed the usual pre-CNY hype seem to have died down quite a bit. It's rather sad cuz I used to look forward to the festivities when I was younger. Maybe I've grown old already.. hah.
Anyway, CNY's eve was already fun on it's own. I started the morning playing football with Josh and his uni friends at Aunty Grace's condo. My writing about this event, or nonevent, would have stopped if not for his perfectly timed, matrix mode, ball-before-self, last gasp sliding tackle through the waterlogged pitch on me en route to goal. I escaped unscathed but my unluckier brother fell victim to a horrid abrasion. With pus and blood oozing from his wound, he somehow managed to drive us home. From then on, his wound trickled pus even after dressing. That's why your mum would tell you not to play football the day before CNY.
The afternoon was a complete nonevent because I fell asleep teaching Jason science. I woke, grumpy and grouchy because my family was having a debate as to where we ought to have dinner. We decided on Vivo but not the actual dining outlet. So we walked along the waterfront, stopping by a Northern Indian restaurant called Go India. Mum says no, so we walked... into this Brazilian restaurant called Carnivore. It didn't ambience didn't lift my mood in any way in fact, it got worse cuz we sat at the alfresco, found that it was too humid, got a waiter to prepare a table for us inside, went inside, Josh complained it was too cold, went outside again, Dad,"You can't tahan cold ah?", finally went back inside and sat down. We already were painful customers without ordering the food. heh.
Oh but the food was marvelous. I got my plate, walked toward the buffet tables and saw peas with carrots...onion rice...rocket salad...olives...broccoli...and other veggies. My first thought was "shit, is that all?!" I took 2 of whatever was offered and went back to my seat. But then! while eating, chefs toting knives and kebabs of different meats came outta the kitchen, to our table and offered us the finest cuts of cattle. Thick, succulent, pieces of meat started loading onto my plate one after another. Woo! Beef ribs, pork shoulder, honey ham, roasted lamb...you name it, they have it. Now, I realize the significance of the name of the restaurant. There were fruits and a chocolate fountain for dessert but that was child's play.
We headed down to Lau Pa Sat for grass jelly after a stroll round Vivo and another argument of whether to squeeze with the crowd in Chinatown and snatch stuffs with people. Naturally, I opted for Lau Pa Sat. I was a long time since I last stepped into dad's office and we had time before midnight so we took a lift up UOB Tower 2. I lost a little weight in Dad's office toilet and took a little longer than usual while enjoying the ambience.:) After testing the office's coffee machine and stealing a few drinks and sweets, we left for One Esplanade via The Fullerton Hotel. I was clad in a polo shirt, berms and slippers.
We caught the fireworks, walked back to Lau Pa Sat to the car and left for home. The night could have ended on a sweet note if not for Sir Alex Ferguson's ruining it. Manutd fielded a weakened side that drew 1-1 with Reading. Needless to say, I had trouble sleeping. Well, it kinda evens out the whole night's fun and excitement.
